1. Echo Location- this is a feature that bats have that allows them to see without seeing. Sound waves leave from the bat's mouth and bounce off of objects and come back to the bat giving it a picture of its surroundings. 2. Wings(hands): Bats are the only mammals that can actually fly with the wings given to them. With the gift of flight, bats are able to reach high vegetation, fruits, and bugs. It also allows them to fly to high protective cave rafters that they sleep and rest on. 3. Large Ears- Bats large ears are used for many purposes. They allow the bat to hear the sound waves that are echoed from their echo location; They can hear if predators are pursuing them; They can hear each others communications. Cladogram Organism InteractionThe bumblebee bat belongs to kingdom Animalia. Bats belong to kingdom Animalia because they are segmented with a notochrod, they possess a dorsal nerve chord, pharyngeal slits, and a tail at some stage of its life, and most have paired appendages.
THREE BIOTIC LIMITING FACTORS IN HABITAT 1. predators (if animals who hunt bumblebee bats for food become in too much abundance, the bats may have to move in order to survive) 2. Humans (their construction can cause damage to landscape) 3. any other creature in abundance that eats the same things as the bats (will cause decrease in food supply and bats will have to move) THREE ABIOTIC LIMITING FACTORS 1. flooding (excessive flooding may cause caves to fill up, drowning the bats if trapped inside.) 2. drought (no water=no life) 3. earthquake (causes splits in cave, ruins bats home) HOW MODERN HUMAN ACTIVITY COULD BE A NEGATIVE RESULT There are many ways that modern human activity can be a bad thing for all living creatures. we are constantly putting out carbon and other toxic gases into the atmosphere. Our continuing contribution to the end of the world will most likely cause death of many animals. We are also constantly causing deforestation. Living creatures need trees to survive, without them we would starve and also not be able to breathe. Bats are living creatures and if they can't breathe, they will die. Also bats live in nature. They live in the wooded areas, usually around caves. Without the trees they wont have a home. HOW BATS ENGAGES IN Mutualism- bumblebee bats live and often hunt together. Their group effort keeps them protected and cared for. Parasitism- Bumblebee bats eat bugs for food. The bugs die, they do not gain anything. Commensalism- trees give oxygen to the bats allowing them to breathe. INNATE BEHAVIOR when a bumblebee bat is born, it does not have to learn to fly. It is born with the skill. hanging from rafters is a natural thing to all bats. They do not have to learn that from their mothers or other bats. |
